Instagram Story

Custom Dimensions

To set custom dimensions:

  1. Enter your desired width in pixels in the "Width" field
  2. Enter your desired height in pixels in the "Height" field
  3. Click "Apply" to resize the image

Percentage Reduction

For simple proportional resizing, Jupiter Image Tools offers a percentage-based reduction feature:

  1. Enter a percentage value (1-99%) in the "Reduce by %" field
  2. Click "Apply" to resize the image down by that percentage from its original size
  3. For example, entering 50% will reduce the image to half its original dimensions
Tip: Percentage reduction maintains the original aspect ratio automatically and is calculated from the original image dimensions. This makes it easy to create smaller versions while preserving proportions.

Rotating Images

To rotate your image:

  • Click the "Rotate Left" button (↺) to rotate 90° counterclockwise
  • Click the "Rotate Right" button (↻) to rotate 90° clockwise

Each rotation is applied immediately to your image.

Cropping Images

Jupiter Image Tools offers two ways to crop your images:

Resize Crop

When you select a preset size or enter custom dimensions with "Preserve aspect ratio" checked, you can:

  1. Drag the crop area to position it exactly where you want
  2. Click "Apply" to crop the image to the selected dimensions

Manual Crop

For more control over the crop area:

  1. Press Ctrl+M to enable manual crop mode
  2. Adjust the crop area by dragging the corners or edges of the selection box
  3. Press Ctrl+A or click "Apply Crop" to crop the image
  4. Click "Cancel" to exit crop mode without changes
Tip: When "Preserve aspect ratio" is checked, the manual crop will maintain the current aspect ratio. Uncheck this option for free-form cropping.

Advanced Cropping Features

Understanding Crop Modes

Jupiter Image Tools offers two distinct cropping approaches:

  • Resize Crop: Maintains your selected dimensions while letting you position the crop area
  • Manual Crop: Full freedom to define both size and position of your crop

Aspect Ratio Controls

The "Preserve aspect ratio" checkbox affects cropping behavior:

  • When checked: Crop area maintains the same width-to-height relationship
  • When unchecked: Crop area can be freely adjusted to any shape
  • For social media images, preserving aspect ratio is highly recommended

Pro Tip

When cropping for social media, position the main subject in the center of your crop area. Most platforms will display the center portion of images in previews and thumbnails.

Professional Photography Tip: The Rule of Thirds

When cropping and resizing images for maximum visual impact, try using the "Rule of Thirds" technique that professional photographers swear by:

  • Imagine your image divided into a 3×3 grid (like a tic-tac-toe board)
  • Position your main subject—a face, product, or focal point—at one of the intersections where these lines meet
  • The top-left and top-right intersection points are particularly powerful attention-grabbers
  • This off-center placement creates visual tension and interest that centered compositions often lack

This simple adjustment transforms ordinary images into visually compelling compositions that look polished and professionally balanced. While centering works well for symmetrical subjects or social media thumbnails, the Rule of Thirds creates dynamic, engaging imagery that naturally draws the viewer's eye exactly where you want it.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Jupiter Image Tools includes several keyboard shortcuts to speed up your workflow:

Action Shortcut
Toggle Manual Crop Mode Ctrl + M

Troubleshooting

Image appears distorted after resizing

This typically happens when aspect ratio is not preserved. Try checking the "Preserve aspect ratio" checkbox before resizing.

Crop area is fixed and can't be adjusted

You might be in Resize mode with a fixed aspect ratio. Try using Manual Crop mode (Ctrl+M) for more flexibility.

Image quality appears reduced after processing

When downloading, choose PNG format for highest quality, especially for images with text or graphics.

The app is slow when processing large images

For best performance, use images under 5000×5000 pixels. Very large images may cause your browser to slow down.

View True Size Feature

The "View True Size" feature helps you understand how your image will appear at its actual physical dimensions:

  • When enabled, this feature displays your image at 100% of its actual size
  • A measurement ruler guide appears alongside the image to provide a real-world scale reference
  • This helps you judge if elements like text and icons will be legible at the intended viewing size
  • Particularly useful when designing interface elements, buttons, or checking text readability

To use the View True Size feature:

  1. Upload and edit your image as needed
  2. Click the "View True Size" button to see your image at its actual dimensions
  3. Use the measurement ruler to gauge sizes in pixels
  4. Click the button again to return to the standard editing view
Note: The accuracy of the true size display depends on your screen's resolution and device settings. For the most accurate representation, make sure your browser zoom level is set to 100%.

Adjusting Image Quality

To reduce file size for JPEG images:

  1. Use the quality slider to select a value between 80% and 100%
  2. The estimated JPEG file size will update as you adjust the slider
  3. Click "Apply Quality" to apply the selected quality setting
Note: Quality settings only affect images when downloaded in JPEG format. PNG files use lossless compression and will not be affected by the quality slider.

Downloading Images

Once you're satisfied with your edits:

  1. Select your preferred format from the dropdown next to the Download button:
    • PNG - Highest quality, lossless compression (larger file size)
    • JPEG - Smaller file size with good quality
    • WebP - Modern format with excellent compression and quality
  2. Click the "Download" button
  3. The image will be saved to your computer's default download location
  4. The filename will include a timestamp to help you identify it
Format Tips: Use PNG for images that need transparency or highest quality. Use JPEG for photographs where file size is important. WebP offers a good balance but may not be supported by all applications.

Copying Images

For quick sharing or pasting into other applications:

  1. Edit your image as desired
  2. Click the "COPY" button
  3. A popup will appear with instructions to right-click (or press-and-hold on mobile) directly on the image
  4. Follow the instructions to use your browser's built-in copy menu options
  5. Click "OK" to dismiss the instructions
  6. The image can now be pasted into other applications
Tip: Using the browser's native copy feature is more reliable across different devices and browsers than programmatic clipboard access, which may be restricted by browser security policies.

File Size Considerations

Jupiter Image Tools displays the estimated file size of your image. Keep in mind:

  1. Larger dimensions generally result in larger file sizes
  2. The maximum file size for upload is 10MB (browser limitation)
  3. Some social media platforms have their own file size limitations
Tip: For optimal loading times on websites and social media, aim for file sizes under 1MB when possible.
